Our breeding goals are primarily dictated by the earliest standards in this country. “Horns should be short and moderately thick, springing well from the head, with an inward and slightly upward curve." "usually a deep black color, but reds occur… one of the very smallest breeds of cattle, a height of 38 or 40 inches… bulls should not exceed 900 pounds…cows should not exceed 800 pounds… produces a large yield of milk…steers well make beef of a very choice quality.”
In addition to red and black, we also believe in preserving dun genetics due to the confusion between red and dun prior to the 1980’s and historical evidence of duns in the breed. We primarily breed for A2/A2 animals, but we also intend to preserve A1 genetics. While we believe that Dexters should meet the height standards above without the effects of chondrodysplasia, and we do not intentionally breed for dwarf traits, we may occasionally breed carrier animals due to their other outstanding characteristics.
